EMV Metro Village is a 11-storey residential scheme with two underground basements located in Matosinhos, Portugal. MOQ Engineering were appointed by the client to work directly with the architect and contractor, developing innovative and comprehensive engineering solutions from early design stages up to construction.

Inserted in a highly built urban environment, the project presents several challenges both to the Engineering design and construction teams. Sergio Sousa architectural design embraced the surrounding buildings, ingeniously integrating the EMV into the existing landscape.

Given the project’s proximity to neighbouring buildings, excavation and retaining works proved to be Engineering’s main challenge. MOQ Engineering teams, designed a unique retaining solution, in partnership with the projects contractor, allowing for a safe and secure construction process.

BIM was key in assuring all site constraints and limitations were considered from the initial design phase, allowing the coordination and cooperation of all Architectural, Engineering and Contractor’s teams.
